Day 5

Subject: [firstname] Here's how to get the most from YouTube.

Hey [firstname]!

When you start uploading your YouTube videos, you will get your own YouTube channel – in fact, if you've got Gmail or Google + you've got a YouTube channel already.

Your channel is a central URL where your fans will be able to see your new content and learn all about you. By default, it’s a fairly blank page, but you can easily customize it by uploading a header graphic, profile picture etc. This is a great place to put your logo, or another image that will help to reinforce your brand. Treat it like you would your Facebook page; in fact, it's best to be consistent across all social media channels – including YouTube.

Another important section on your channel is the “about” tab. Here you can write a bit about your brand and what makes it unique. This should be persuasive – explaining what your business does, as well as getting people excited about your channel. You can also try to highlight some of your most popular videos and describe things that you have coming soon. Insert a few keywords as this will also help your channel to get found by search engines.

Once you have uploaded a few videos, create a Channel Trailer to show off everything unique and interesting about your channel in a brief, TV commercial style clip. This can be a great way of getting visitors to subscribe.

You should also link your website and social media profiles to your channel. Linking your Twitter and Facebook pages is a great way too co-ordinate your efforts and get more people to follow you on those platforms. Likewise, have a link to your YouTube channel on your Facebook and Twitter profiles and let your followers know each time you post a new video. Adding your website will give you the ability to link-out to your site in your labels and comments – very useful for SEO.
